Rumor mill:
The Brooklyn Nets, prior to their trade for James Harden, were in the hunt for a guard that could provide great spacing for superstar players Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. With the season-ending injury to Spencer Dinwiddie, replacements with previous NBA experience were assumed to be the frontrunners. According to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson of Heavy.com, MSG network, and CBS Sports, this is not entirely correct.
Robinson presented the option of having Trace Cureton, a 6’5″ point guard with experience overseas and at the NCAA D1 level, fill that spot. Following the Harden trade, the Nets will look to sign players to fill additional holes in the roster, up to three. Cureton does not have the experience that Troy Daniels or Allen Crabbe bring, and one can question how he is in the conversation at all. He last played in Australia, averaging 20.6 ppg to go along with 8.7 rpg and 3.9 apg. The jump from that season right to the NBA is a long one, and perhaps it is best for the Nets to revisit the possibility after a stint with their Summer League team. At 22, he still possesses some upside. In a season of uncertainty, this development is par for the course.
